HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội is preparing to raise the curtain on a major celebration of the performing arts next year, as professional theatre troupes from across the country gather for the 2026 Hà Nội Theatre Festival.
The Hà Nội People’s Committee recently announced plans for the festival, which will run from September 3 to 13 at venues across the capital, including the Friendship Cultural Palace, Hồ Gươm Opera House and the Công Nhân, Đại Nam and Hồng Hà theatres, among others.
The event will mark the 72nd anniversary of the Capital’s Liberation Day while honouring Hà Nội’s distinctive cultural and artistic heritage. It is also intended to serve as a forum for artistic troupes to exchange creative experiences and present high-quality productions to the public.
The festival will showcase works reflecting the rich cultural and historical depth of Hà Nội, its people and identity, featuring exemplary productions across a range of theatrical genres including chèo (popular opera), cải lương (reformed theatre), drama, musicals, circus, puppetry and tuồng (classical drama).
Participants will include public and private professional theatres, as well as higher education institutions specialising in the performing arts from across the country.
The organising board will award gold and silver medals along with other prizes to outstanding productions, actors and creative teams. — VNS
