HCM CITY — The HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will host a concert commemorating the 270th anniversary of the death of the great Austrian composer Mozart at the Opera House on April 4.
The Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart 270 concert will introduce Mozart’s high-level artistic works in opera, concerto and symphony, while honouring the artistic values of his musical legacy.
The night will open with Overture from the opera Don Giovanni, one of Mozart's most dramatic overtures.
Don Giovanni, which premiered in 1787, is a play blending tragedy and comedy. Its overture portrays both aspects of the plot, featuring the masculine element in the strings and the feminine element in the woodwinds.
The work will be performed by the HBSO Symphony Orchestra.
Pianist Lưu Đức Anh of Hà Nội will continue with Piano Concerto No 27, Mozart's last piano concerto.
The composition, first performed in 1791, is imbued with a profound sadness, carrying simplicity with depth. The three movements of Allegro, Larghetto, and Allegro feature a gentle dialogue between piano and orchestra.
Born into a family with a rich musical tradition, Anh began studying piano at a very young age under the guidance of his father, Meritorious Artist Lưu Quang Minh, one of the leading educators of accordion and jazz music in Việt Nam.
He studied at the Việt Nam National Academy of Music and continued his musical journey at the Royal Conservatory of Liège, Belgium, and the Malmö Academy of Music, Sweden.
He has brought his music to audiences around the world, with a career spanning from domestic stages to prestigious international venues.
The night will be concluded with Symphony No 41 in C major, which was regarded as among the greatest symphonies in classical music.
The four-movement composition, composed in 1988 and nicknamed the Jupiter Symphony, is Mozart’s longest and last symphony. It is notable for its thematic development and complex counterpoint structure.
The Jupiter Symphony will be presented by the HBSO Symphony Orchestra.
