HCM CITY – Lật mặt 8: Vòng Tay Nắng (Face off 8: Embrace of Light), a drama by film producer and director Lý Hải, will be released in North America, Australia, Europe and Asia starting on September 18, according to the producer.

Screenings are scheduled in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Germany, France, Norway, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Poland, Japan, and Thailand, through the 3388 Films production and distribution company.

Lật mặt 8: Vòng Tay Nắng focuses on differences in perspective among generations, conveying heartfelt messages about being brave, living the life you want and the importance of love within the family.

The work revolves around a 17-year-old student with a gift for music who wants to pursue a music career, but others strongly oppose his dream. He then joins his friends to form a band and seeks ways to shine.

The film features young and experienced actors, such as Đoàn Thế Vinh, Long Đẹp Trai and Meritorious Artists Kim Phương and Tuyết Thu.

The movie, which premiered on April 30, earned more than VNĐ231 billion (US$8.75 million) in nearly two months in cinemas.

Hải was a well-known singer in the 1990s for his pop songs. He started making films in 2010 and has achieved great success with his franchise Lật Mặt (Face Off), which consists of eight movies featuring various genres, including drama, comedy, action and thriller.

Hải said, “I always expect my productions to promote images of the country and the Vietnamese people among international friends. Despite my modest contribution, I hope to spread my love for the S-shaped country to more audiences.”

The first movie in the franchise, Lật Mặt, premiered in 2015 and earned more than VNĐ72 billion ($2.73 million) in ticket sales.

The seventh movie, Lật Mặt 7: Một Điều Ước (Face Off 7: One Wish), released last April, raked in VNĐ482 billion ($18.27 million), becoming Hải’s highest-grossing production.

The franchise has earned more than VNĐ1.47 trillion ($55.7 million) so far. — VNS
