TIỀN GIANG The southern province of Tiền Giang experienced a surge in the number of visitors during the first six months of 2024.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Tiền Giang Province, it is estimated that from the beginning of 2024 to June 13, the locality welcomed 850,000 visitors, an increase of 21.1 per cent, with international visitors reaching 300,000, up 60.3 per cent compared to the same period in 2023.

The province has achieved 51.5 per cent of the 2024 plan in terms of number of visitors.

Revenue is estimated at VNĐ600 billion (US$23.6 million), up 25.3 per cent compared to the same period in 2023.

Võ Văn Chiến, deputy director of the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Tiền Giang Province, stated that the number of tourists visiting the locality in the early months of 2024 has significantly increased year-on-year, especially international visitors, thanks to the positive impact of various tourism recovery policies, particularly visa policies.

The province has focused on developing the tourism sector along with organising novel and attractive activities, events, and programmes for visitors.

Tourism activities in the area have remained stable while security, fire prevention and environmental hygiene are ensured.

The Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism has proposed the provincial People's Committee to recognise two tourist sites, namely Trương Gia Phủ and Ông Đồ Street.

The department collaborated with the Department of Industry and Trade to support the introduction of products, establishing a point for showcasing and selling OCOP products at the store of Trí Sơn Trading and Service Company with 65 products from 20 businesses, co-operatives, and households.

The department also co-operated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, relevant departments, and Mỹ Tho City to conduct field surveys for the pilot model "Developing community tourism linked with the promotion of Đờn Ca Tài Tử (Southern Folk Music) and OCOP product development” in Thới Sơn Commune, Mỹ Tho City.

This aims to guide and support investment in building performance areas for Southern folk music within the commune.

In the remaining months of the year, Tiền Giang will continue to enhance investment promotion by accelerating administrative reforms, assisting investors in overcoming difficulties, and speeding up the implementation of tourism projects.

The Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism will intensify tourism promotion and advertising efforts, and focus more on organising cultural events linked with tourism development, as well as building and developing the Tiền Giang tourism brand.

Tiền Giang will continue to improve the efficiency of linking and co-operating to create new products, focusing on exploiting advantages to attract tourists.

The province will continue to implement the co-operation programme for tourism development between HCM City and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region and the tourism development co-operation programme for the Eastern cluster of the Mekong Delta in 2024.

In the last six months of 2024, the province aims to attract 800,000 visitors, including 250,000 international visitors.

Direct revenue from tourism activities is expected to reach VNĐ650 billion. VNS
