HCM CITY – A solo photo exhibition of photographer Trần Thanh Thảo opened at the Nina Next Space exhibition area in HCM City on April 22.

Entitled '224 by Trần Thanh Thảo', the exhibition unveils a collection of 100 photographs capturing Thảo's emotional journey across Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, and Pakistan, showcased in both colour and black and white.

Thảo said that the exhibition's title, '224,' holds deep personal significance as it mirrors the sum of the digits in her birthdate, November 30, 1979. To her, '224' symbolises a transformative phase, marking her foray into the realm of photography.

The exhibition space is divided into three sections, each reflecting Thảo's immersive experiences in the featured countries: ‘Land of Freedom’ for Mongolia, ‘Oasis of Serenity’ for Kyrgyzstan, and ‘Epic Ballad’ for Pakistan.

‘Miền tự do’ (Land of Freedom) depicts Thảo's journey in northern Mongolia, showcasing the simple lifestyle of a reindeer herding family and nomadic horsemen amidst vast grasslands.

'Oasis of Serenity' (Khoảng bình yên) in Kyrgyzstan portrays serene landscapes amidst meadows and mountains, such as a simple green cabin nestled in tranquility, a humble fireplace in a small room, or the smile of a little girl behind a window frame.

'Epic Ballad' (Bản hùng ca) highlights the grandeur and harshness of nature, showcasing flowing rivers, sandstorms, snowy mountain ranges, as well as flowers and sunlight. Alongside these are large portraits of the people of this land.

Vương Thuỷ Tiên, a photographer participating in the exhibition, said that Thảo's photos evoked strong emotions. Each photo here presents Thảo's perspective and emotions in that space and time.

Additionally, during the exhibition, there will be various workshop activities aimed at connecting photographers and enhancing photography skills.

Trần Thanh Thảo graduated from the University of Architecture HCM City, and has over 20 years of experience in creative fields.

The event is organised by 2RES Co Ltd, with sponsorship from Leica Vietnam, and will run until April 27. – VNS
