SEOUL — Minister of Environment for the Republic of Korea (RoK) Cho Myung-rae said his country was willing to assist Việt Nam in building its environmental protection and climate change adaptation capacity, and in writing relevant laws and regulations.

He made the offer at the 14th environment ministers meeting between Việt Nam and the RoK, which took place in Seoul on Thursday to review bilateral co-operation and discuss the partnership moving forward.

Vietnamese Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Trần Hồng Hà expressed his appreciation for the RoK Ministry of Environment’s co-operation and assistance through training programmes, expert exchanges, support projects and technology transfer.

He said the support had helped the country develop its workforce and improve its capacity in environmental protection, water resources management and hydro-meteorological forecasting.

The minister asked the Korean side to continue prioritising support for personnel training in natural resources and environmental protection.

The Vietnamese minister also asked the RoK to keep sending experts to advise Việt Nam on amending waste treatment regulations and environmental standards.

Minister Cho said the RoK has experiences in managing waste and wastewater from industrial zones, and is willing to assist Việt Nam in this area.

He pledged to support Việt Nam’s water resource management and biodiversity protection planning, adding that many RoK businesses want to invest in Việt Nam’s growing renewable energy sector.

He agreed that his ministry would make stronger efforts to turn the partnership in natural resources and environment into one of the countries’ leading co-operation fields. — VNS
