Nearly 200 enterprises and entrepreneurs in HCM City were awarded for their outstanding achievements at a ceremony held in the city on Saturday.

HCM CITY — Nearly 200 enterprises and entrepreneurs in HCM City were awarded for their outstanding achievements at a ceremony held in the city on Saturday.

The event, which saw the attendance of Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyễn Thiện Nhân, was organised by the HCM City Union of Business Association (HUBA) to mark the 14th celebration of Việt Nam Entrepreneurs’ Day.

According to HUBA Chairman Chu Tiến Dũng, on an annual basis, these enterprises and businessmen have together earned more than VNĐ250 trillion (US$10.7 billion) in revenue and contributed close to VNĐ20 trillion ($856.5 million) to the city’s budget. They have also created over 130,000 jobs and donated over VNĐ500 billion ($21.4 million) to social welfare activities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyễn Thiện Nhân praised the significant contributions of the local enterprises in the past years. He highlighted the private sector as a key driving force of the market economy.

HCM City currently houses over 361,000 enterprises and more than 250,000 household businesses. — VNS
