HCM CITY — More than 13,690 new ".vn" domain names were registered last month, taking the total number so far to over 444,860, 10.2 per cent higher than a year ago, according to the Việt Nam Internet Network Information Centre.
The “.vn” domain name is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD), which has been transferred by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to Việt Nam for management.
Huỳnh Ngọc Duy, managing director of Mắt Bão Corporation, one of the leading .vn domain registrars in Việt Nam, said: "To protect enterprises on the internet, the top priority is choosing the right domain name.
“There are many [domain names] options at the moment, but .vn is always the best option because of its safety, high reliability and advantages related to searching and promotions."
Thái Hữu Lý, a VNNIC official, said businesses using the .vn domain name are completely assured it would not be stolen because the .vn national domain name is protected by law.
It is also secured by the Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) and Registry Lock, which provide the highest level of protection for a domain name, he said.
According to internet experts, amid changes to the status of cybersecurity in Việt Nam, e-commerce firms need to adapt to it, and the use of the .vn domain name is the first important step.
Since Mắt Bão became the .vn domain name registrar for the VNNIC, the two have undertaken many activities to promote e-commerce development, update information and reply to questions related to domain names and others from businesses, start-ups and computer programmers, the company said.
It has also offered promotions on .vn domain names to the online business community, it said. — VNS
