HƯNG YÊN — Under the scorching summer heat, workers push ahead with determination, intent on completing roads and bridges that will form the backbone of future development ahead of National Day celebrations.

At a recent meeting, Chairman of the Hưng Yên Provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Khắc Thận called on all relevant departments and localities to step up efforts.

He urged agencies and localities to act decisively and coordinate closely, stressing that land clearance must proceed quickly for construction, material shortages must be resolved and resources ensured so projects can be completed on time, or even earlier.

Hưng Yên is determined to bring critical transport projects to completion ahead of schedule, opening new trade routes and creating a strong boost for the socio-economic development of both the province and the wider region.

One of the flagship undertakings is the Ring Road 4 project in the Hà Nội Capital Region.

Construction began in October 2023, and progress has been noteworthy, with over 81 per cent of land clearance completed, while more than three-quarters of key technical tasks, such as foundation excavations, geotextile laying and sand embankments, have been finished.

Nguyễn Hữu Thống, Director of the Project Management Board for Ring Road 4 under Lizen Joint Stock Company, said that all materials have been stockpiled and machinery mobilised, with eight to 10 construction fronts operating simultaneously.

“Our determination is strong, but to make a breakthrough, local authorities need to hand over the remaining land, especially for the Đồng Quê Bridge in Mễ Sở Commune and the Bắc Hưng Hải Bridge in Nghĩa Trụ Commune,” he said.

Thống said early completion will not only facilitate trade between Hưng Yên and neighbouring provinces, but will also open a new space for socio-economic development, enhancing the province’s role as a gateway to the capital region.

A similar sense of urgency is evident at the Tân Phúc – Võng Phan project, a 24.3km artery connecting Ân Thi, Tiên Lữ and Phù Cừ. Work began in November 2023, and nearly 97 per cent of the required land has been handed over, with over 1,100 graves relocated. The project has reached 67 per cent of its total budgeted value, and essential components, including organic soil excavation, unsuitable soil treatment and foundation reinforcement, are being carried out simultaneously.

Nguyễn Xuân Quang, project manager at Viandelta Joint Stock Company, which oversees 8km of the route, noted that overtime shifts have been prepared. He said that if land handover continues smoothly, his team could finish at least half a month ahead of schedule, with the main challenge remaining incomplete clearance at several key junctions.

Deputy Director of Project Management Board 1 Vũ Thế Huy, said: “These projects are not just for Hưng Yên, but also serve as regional connectors, creating growth momentum for neighbouring localities.”

In addition to these projects, Hưng Yên is advancing several other strategic works: a 33.3km section of the Ninh Bình – Hải Phòng Expressway, a 24.8km route linking Thái Bình City to Hưng Hà District and into Hưng Yên, and a 21.3km road connecting Thái Bình City to Nghìn Bridge.

Together, these routes represent tens of trillions of đồng in investment, reshaping trade and logistics across the region.

Provincial leaders see major roads as drivers of prosperity, regarding these transport links as essential to moving beyond a solely agricultural economy and opening up wider opportunities for development. They emphasise that construction must balance speed with technical and aesthetic standards.

As new roads stretch across the province and bridges rise over rivers, Hưng Yên’s determination to accelerate integration with Hà Nội and neighbouring provinces becomes increasingly visible.

Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has called for the launch of 250 projects worth VNĐ1.28 quadrillion (US$48.8 billion) to mark the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day.
