BÌNH DƯƠNG - The Bình Dương Association of Supporting Industries (BASI) was officially established on June 19 in Bình Dương New City.

Võ Sơn Điền, chief marketing officer at Becamex IDC Corporation and former Chairman of the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Bình Dương Province, was elected as BASI’s first Chairman.

Điền said that while the province hosts over 30 industrial parks and more than 4,000 FDI firms, local supporting industry enterprises have lacked a representative organisation to foster technology improvement, trade facilitation and policy advocacy.

BASI was formed to meet that need by connecting enterprises with authorities, as well as with foreign partners.

BASI was established in cooperation with the Việt Nam Association for Supporting Industries (VASI), which includes over 400 businesses in mechanics, electronics, new materials and automobiles.

With VASI’s experience in B2B connecting, international trade fairs, training and consulting, BASI will be a key facilitator of southern Việt Nam’s supporting industries.

The domestic supporting industry market is estimated at around US$50 billion. However, most local firms rely on manual labour, imported components and intermediate goods.

BASI is expected to promote usage of domestically manufactured components, support businesses in accessing international markets, strengthening linkages and promoting deeper integration into global supply chains.

BASI has pledged to support member businesses through workforce training, technical innovation, market expansion and policy engagement.

It also plans to host industry conferences, regional forums and business awards.

Điền noted that BASI aligns with major government policies in 2025, focusing on economic restructuring, increasing the localisation rate and greater global supply chain integration.

Bùi Minh Trí, Deputy Chairman of Bình Dương Provincial People’s Committee, said that the province will continue to solve difficulties, reform administrative procedures and create a favourable environment for businesses to invest in production.

He also praised local firms’ resilience amid global economic uncertainties and described BASI’s foundation as a timely initiative to boost competitiveness and localisation rates, positioning Bình Dương as a modern industrial hub. - VNS
