HÀ NỘI — Total capitalisation of Việt Nam’s securities market reached VNĐ2.29 quadrillion (nearly US$100.4 billion) by the end of March, equivalent to 51 per cent of the country’s GDP.

This number represented a 18 per cent rise over December 31 last year, the Ministry of Finance reported.

Stock market indices expanded on the back of strong investor optimism on economic outlook as well as support policies which will be soon implemented, including operation of the derivatives market this year.

The benchmark VN-Index has risen 8.6 per cent this year ending March 31 and nearly 10 per cent as of April 13.

Daily average trading value touched nearly VNĐ7.6 trillion in the last three months, up 9.7 per cent over 2016’s average.

Trading value of Government bonds reached over VNĐ4 trillion per session, up just 0.4 per cent over last year’s period, while trade of stocks and fund certificates was valued at nearly VNĐ3.6 trillion per session, up 22.4 per cent year-on-year.

On the bond market, total value of bonds, including Government bonds and Government-backed bonds, stood at almost VNĐ87.1 trillion. — VNS
