BIS Hanoi Class of 2025 graduates outperformed the global average in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) for the eighth consecutive year. |
The British International School (BIS) Hanoi is once again celebrating a remarkable academic achievement, as its Class of 2025 graduates have outperformed the global average in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) for the eighth consecutive year since their first cohort of IBDP graduates in 2018.
A Tradition of Academic Excellence
Since 2016, BIS Hanoi has been authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) to offer the IBDP, a two-year education programme for students aged 16-19. According to the IBO, there are 2.7 million IB learners across 157 countries worldwide, making it a globally recognised educational programme.
This year, a total of 202,103 students worldwide took the IBDP examinations. BIS Hanoi students achieved an average point score of 33.24, significantly higher than the global average of 30.58. This result reflects not only the school’s rigorous academic programme but also the consistency of its high standards and the commitment of its students and staff.

BIS Hanoi students continue the tradition of academic excellence with excellent 2024/25 IBDP results. |
“Their success is a true testament to their resilience, ambition, and hard work throughout the academic year,” said Richard Vaughan, Principal at BIS Hanoi. “We are immensely proud of our students’ remarkable achievements in this year’s IBDP results. I would also like to thank our exceptional teaching staff, whose support and dedication made these outcomes possible.”
The school’s impressive outcomes this year also include a notable 9.7 per cent of students scoring 40 points and above in the exam, while only 4.7 per cent of candidates worldwide achieved this. One BIS student achieved an exceptional 44 out of a possible 45 points, an extraordinary result that reflects the school’s emphasis on academic rigour and personalised support.
Sixty-three per cent of the cohort earned the prestigious Bilingual Diploma (BD), demonstrating high-level proficiency in two languages. This outcome not only highlights students’ linguistic ability but also underscores the school’s commitment to nurturing globally minded learners who are confident in their cultural identity and communication skills.
Heading to Top Universities in the World
Beyond the numbers, BIS Hanoi graduates from the Class of 2025 have received over 150 offers from top universities worldwide. This year’s destinations include institutions such as University College London (UCL), the University of Edinburgh, King’s College London, Boston University, the University of Sydney, the University of Hong Kong, and Waseda University.
Throughout their time at BIS Hanoi, students benefit from a comprehensive university guidance programme, led by dedicated counsellors who provide individualised support at every stage of the university planning process. Whether exploring course options, preparing applications, or building personal statements, students are empowered to make informed choices that align with their interests and goals.

BIS Hanoi held a warm and memorable graduation ceremony for the graduating students. |
At the end of May, after the IBDP exams, the school community came together to honour the achievements of the graduating class during a warm and memorable graduation ceremony. The event marked a significant milestone in students’ lives and offered a moment of reflection and celebration. Families, friends, teachers and special guests, including British Ambassador to Việt Nam Iain Frew gathered to recognise the accomplishments of the Class of 2025.
The IB Diploma: Key Pathway to Future Success
The IBDP, widely regarded as one of the most rigorous and respected qualifications in the world, is a key part of BIS Hanoi’s Sixth Form offering. It provides students with not only academic challenges but also the opportunity to develop as independent, compassionate and open-minded individuals.

Global research shows that IB students are more likely to be accepted into competitive universities. |
For many students, the experience of the IBDP is transformative. Riria, a member of the BIS Hanoi Class of 2025, reflected on her journey through the programme. “The IB programme, with its emphasis on independent learning and research, really helped build my confidence. I had to step out of my comfort zone to present ideas, write research papers, and engage in meaningful discussions. Having the chance to do the IB was a great opportunity.”
The IBDP is known for producing well-rounded graduates who go on to thrive in higher education and beyond. Global research from the International Baccalaureate Organisation consistently shows that IB students are more likely to be accepted into competitive universities, perform better in their university studies, and complete their degrees at higher rates compared to students from other curricula.
At BIS Hanoi, the programme is brought to life by expert teachers, hands-on learning experiences, and a supportive school culture that encourages students to think critically, challenge assumptions, and engage deeply with their learning. Students are encouraged to explore their passions through the IB’s core elements, including Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), all of which are designed to stretch them intellectually, socially, and emotionally.
