HÒA BÌNH — Six out of 18 kidney patients who were receiving dialysis at Hòa Bình Province General Hospital died on Monday morning with suspected anaphylactic shock.

As soon as the deaths were reported, the hospital turned off its dialysis machines and transferred the living patients to Hòa Bình City’s General Hospital for emergency aid.

Director of the province’s Department of Health Trần Quang Khánh said that patients were given intensive care and doctors from Hà Nội-based Bạch Mai Hospital were summoned to the northern province for further medical assessment.

“The doctors will also help detect the cause of the incident,” Khánh said, adding that the investigation would require time.

Lương Ngọc Khuê, director general of the Medical Examination and Treatment Department under Ministry of Health said that when informed of the case, Health Minister Nguyễn Thị Kim Tiến assigned him to lead a ministry’s group to Hòa Bình on the same day to deliver assistance and detect the incident’s causes. — VNS
