HÀ NAM – The US Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) launched its latest livestock feed plant, worth 20 million euros (more than $22.1 million), in the northern province of Hà Nam on Tuesday.

Covering 4.6ha at the Hòa Mạc Industrial Park, the new facility joins a growing list of investments by ADM in Việt Nam, marking its fifth plant dedicated to animal nutrition in the country.

“Việt Nam is a vibrant market in the region and is one of the ASEAN countries with an excellent economic growth rate,” ADM Animal Nutrition President Pierre Christophe Duprat said at the plant’s opening ceremony.

“With a population of nearly a hundred million people, Việt Nam is one of the world’s top pork consuming countries, ranking second in Asia, and has the fifth largest feed market,” he said, adding that livestock producers here are gradually shifting from small-scale to larger-scale operations and industrial farming.

“With 25 years of experience in the country, our latest animal feed plant in Hòa Mạc allows us to further strengthen our industrial and commercial coverage in the key Vietnamese feed market and continue to grow,” he added.

The plant is designed to produce up to 300,000 tonnes of feed per year with three production lines, mainly for swine, as well as for poultry and rabbits.

In his speech at the ceremony, Nguyễn Xuân Dương, acting director of Livestock Production Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development called on ADM to make future investment in the country's livestock industry with initial focuses on the quality of animal feed and reducing costs of these products.

ADM currently employs 900 people in Việt Nam and has five production sites, two R&D centres and nine logistics platforms and one analytical laboratory. The company is engaged in five main activities including complete feed production, aquaculture, pet food, premix and additives and ingredients. — VNS
