HCM CITY — Two women working for HCM City-based travel operators won top prizes in the final round of the HCM City Tour Guide contest on Wednesday (Oct 30).

Nguyễn Ngọc Thảo My of BenThanh Tourist won the first prize for best international guide and Dương Thùy Dung of Saigontourist for best domestic guide.

Võ Thị Ngọc Sen, a tourism student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in HCM City, won the first prize for best student in a tourism training school.

Twenty two contestants were in the fray in the final round where they were judged on general knowledge and communication, cheerleading and problem solving skills.

A total of 22 prizes worth VNĐ188 million (US$8,100) were on offer.

The competition attracted more than 300 tour guides and students from 25 travel companies and 19 schools in HCM City, Cần Thơ City, Đà Nẵng City, and Lâm Đồng Province.

There are 5,500 licensed tour guides in HCM City, including 3,247 international guides and 2,253 domestic guides, according to the city Department of Tourism, the contest organiser. —VNS
