HÀ NỘI — Twenty-year-old Võ Thanh An made a surprise when he won the second stage of the HCM City Television Cycling Cup yesterday.
An of the 620 Châu Thới - Vĩnh Long crew finished first in the 199km stage from Vinh City of Nghệ An Province to Đồng Hới City of Quảng Bình.
He clocked 5hr 18.55min in the longest stage of the tournament.
The outstanding performance helped An steal the yellow jersey for the leading athlete from Nguyễn Tấn Hoài of Domesco Đồng Tháp, who came second yesterday.
An also jumped to top the rankings for white jersey for the best young athlete with 45 points, 15 more than previous leader Nguyễn Văn Bình of HCM City.
Bình Dương’s Hà Kiều Tấn Đại leads the race for the King of Mountain after he was the first to reach the peak of Ngang Pass, one of 11 passes throughout the 18 stages.

The third stage is from Đồng Hới to Huế on 162km. VNS
