HÀ NỘI — Top Vietnamese tennis player Lý Hoàng Nam and Đào Minh Trang won the Việt Nam Tennis Federation (VTF) Masters 500 tournament – Lạch Tray Cup which concluded in the northern port city of Hải Phòng on Sunday.
Nam of Hải Đăng Tây Ninh proved his position after beating his teammate Trịnh Linh Giang 6-1, 6-3 in the men’s singles final.
Trang of Hưng Thịnh HCM City took the women’s singles title. She defeated Phan Thị Thanh Bình of Đà Nẵng 6-3, 6-1 in the final.
Trang paired with Trần Thụy Thanh Trúc to get the women’s doubles title after beating the duo Nguyễn Thị Mai Hưng and Đặng Thị Hạnh of Hải Dương 7-5, 6-1.
Trang, 23, has played tennis since she was 10 years old. This is the first time Trang has triumphed at a national event.
In the men’s doubles, Nam and Giang lost to Lê Quốc Khánh and Phạm Minh Tuấn of Hưng Thịnh HCM City in the final.
Following this event, the national tennis team will convene in the southern province of Tây Ninh to prepare for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games to be held in the Philippines later this year.
Việt Nam will target to earn at least one gold medal in the men’s singles event with Nam and the men’s doubles category with Nam and Khánh. — VNS
