Việt Nam beat New Zealand 3-1 at the third Asian Men’s U23 Volleyball Championship on Wednesday in Naypyidaw, Myanmar.

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam beat New Zealand 3-1 in their 9th-16th playoff match at the third Asian Men’s U23 Volleyball Championship at Hall B inside the Wunna Theikdi Indoor Stadium on Wednesday in Naypyidaw, Myanmar.

The Vietnamese team played confidently continuously on the attack. They created pressure on their rival and easily won 25-19.

New Zealand fought back strongly and their efforts were paid off with a win of 25-20 in the second set.

However, Việt Nam focused again and beat New Zealand with the same score of 25-21 in the third and fourth set.

Việt Nam will next face Thailand.

In other matches, hosts Myanmar, spearheaded by two national spikers, Aung Zaw Htet and Ya Htike Wai, produced a magnificent come-from-behind 3-1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-21) victory over gallant Qatar, while debutants Bahrain beat China’s Hong Kong 25-16, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17. — VNS
