HÀ NỘI Vietnamese top tennis player Lý Hoàng Nam was ousted from the men’s singles second round of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Challenger Yokkaichi in Japan yesterday.
He lost to Imai Shintaro of Japan 1-2.
Nam played well in the first set to win 6-2. However, the Japanese player fought back strongly to defeat Nam 6-2 to level the score 1-1.
In the decisive third set, the two players were neck and neck and then Shintaro won 6-3.
Nam registered to play in the event, he was the world No 400 so he was selected as No 16 seed and skipped the first round.
According to the latest ATP men's singles rankings, Nam has dropped 73 steps to world No 473. While Shintaro rose 122 steps to No 346. VNS
