HÀ NỘI — The National Shooting Tournament started at the National Sports Training Centre in Hà Nội on Monday.

The event attracted more than 160 shooters from 13 teams across the country.

At the competition, marksmen are taking part in 14 events. Their female counterparts will have 10 events.

The tournament runs until July 28.

General Secretary of the Việt Nam Shooting Federation (VSF) Nguyễn Thị Nhung said the annual event is designed to scout and select excellent shooters for the national team.

It also provides a chance for the VSF to assess training quality of coaches, she said.

Việt Nam’s shooting earned one gold medal and one silver at the Olympic Games, the only sport in which the country has secured medals. Both were won by marksman Hoàng Xuân Vinh in the men’s 10m air pistol and the 50m pistol events at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in 2016. — VNS
