Junior chess championships get underway

The National Junior Chess Championships will begin tomorrow at Hà Nội’s Quần Ngựa Sports Complex with the participation of a record 1,200 competitors.

HÀ NỘI — The National Junior Chess Championships will begin tomorrow at Hà Nội’s Quần Ngựa Sports Complex with the participation of a record 1,200 competitors.

Players will compete in standard, blitz and rapid chess in different age groups ranging from six to 20.

Leading masters include Nguyễn Lê Cẩm Hiền from Quảng Ninh in the girls’ U12, Nguyễn Thiên Ngân from Thái Nguyên in the girls’ U14, Bạch Ngọc Thùy Dương from HCM City in the girls’ U16 and Trần Đăng Minh Quang of Bắc Ninh in the boys’ U14.

The tournament, entitled the Vietcombank Cup, will conclude on July 10 with medal holders selected for the national team who will compete in the world junior championship in October, 2020. — VNS
