HÀ NỘI — World No 187 Nguyễn Anh Tú is the only Vietnamese still in the World Table Tennis Championships which is ongoing in Hungary.
Tú defeated Morrison Calum of Scotland 4-0 and Abdulwahhab Mohammed of Qatar 4-1 in the group round of the men's singles. He then defeated Tromer Laurens from the Netherlands 4-1 in the qualification to enter the main round.
His next rival is the world No 41 Darko Jorgic of Slovenia.
Tú was earlier knocked out of the mixed doubles event. He was paired with Nguyễn Khoa Diệu Khánh and lost both matches in the group stage.
Việt Nam also sent Đoàn Bá Tuấn Anh and Nguyễn Đức Tuân to the championship but they were eliminated from early rounds.
This year is the 55th edition of the championships, and the fourth in Budapest. The tournament runs from April 21-28. — VNS
