HÀ NỘI — Đào Hồng Sơn bagged a gold medal for Việt Nam at the 2019 Thailand Ju-Jitsu Championship, which concluded at Bangkok’s Rangsit University over the weekend.
With four victories in the 56kg category, including three consecutive knockouts within just half of the six-minute match time, Sơn won the gold.
Việt Nam sent four athletes to the event in the ju-jitsu newaza category for competitors aged 18 and above. More than 1,000 martial artists from 67 teams took part in the competition, including from Malaysia and Singapore.
Ju-jitsu, which originated in Japan, is practised all over the world and is part of events such as the Asian Games and the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
Vice Chairman of the Asian Ju-jitsu Union, Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng, said the sport has been growing in Việt Nam in the last five years.
The country is preparing for the event at the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines later this year, he added. — VNS
