HÀ NỘI — The number one seeds went through to the quarter-finals of the Yonex Waikato International badminton tournament after their victories yesterday.
Nguyễn Tiến Minh of Việt Nam advanced to the last eight by beating Gu Junfeng of China 21-11, 21-17 in the men’s singles category. He will next play Kiwi Adam Dolman.
His teammate, number three seed Lê Đức Phát, also went through after defeating Shota Omoto of Japan 21-11, 21-12. He will face Ye Bingwong of Malaysia.
On the women’s side, number one seed Vũ Thị Trang trounced Shaunna Li of the host nation 21-13, 21-8. The Vietnamese player will next meet New Zealander Qin Jinjing.
Earler Vũ Thị Anh Thư failed to overcome number two seed Chua Hui Zhen Grace of Singapore, losing 21-14, 13-21, 16-21.
