HÀ NỘI — The National Olympic Running Day – 46th Hà Nội Mới Newspaper Open for Peace 2019 – will be held nationwide on Sunday.

In Hà Nội, the event will be organised around Hoàn Kiếm Lake at 7am.

The event marks the 73rd establishment of the Việt Nam Sports Industry and the day President Hồ called on people to play sports (March 27, 1946 – March 27, 2019).   

It is an opportunity for all cities and provinces nationwide to enhance awareness of the importance of exercise.

As many as 8,000 runners, including 5,000 professional athletes, workers of all classes in the area of Hoàn Kiếm District, and 3,000 famous artists, actors and workers from enterprises are scheduled to participate in the event.

The event will be broadcast live on Hà Nội Radio Television.

On the same day, the Hà Nội Culture and Sports Department will also organise other sports activities like badminton, shuttlecock, sepak takraw and traditional martial arts to welcome the traditional day of Việt Nam Sports Industry on Đinh Tiên Hoàng Street.

The Garmin Run Hà Nội will be held for the first time at Yên Sở Park, joined by Olympic athlete Nguyễn Thành Ngưng and two defending champions of Vietnam Mountain Marathon 100km Tiến Hùng and Quang Trần.

In Hồ Chí Minh City, the event will be organised by the city’s Department of Culture and Sports.

According to the organiser, some 7,000 runners from 63 different agencies and enterprises will take part in the event.

Participants will race for 2.5km crossing Lê Duẩn – Paris Commune – Đồng Khởi – Ngô Đức Kế - Nguyễn Huệ - Lê Thánh Tôn – Pasteur and finish at Lê Duẩn Street.

Besides the Lê Duẩn area in front of Independence Palace and other roads, the event will also be held at 23 other districts of the city.

Meanwhile, on the same day, in Vũng Tàu City, the 60th Tiền Phong Newspaper Marathon will attract 2,000 runners, among them are athletes who shined at SEA Games like Nguyễn Văn Lai, Nguyễn Thị Oanh, and Phạm Thị Huệ.
