Daniel Nguyễn wins men’s single and doubles at VTF Masters 500

Vietnamese-American tennis player Daniel Nguyễn triumphed in the men’s singles and doubles at the Việt Nam Tennis Federation (VTF) Masters 500.

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese-American tennis player Daniel Nguyễn triumphed in the men’s singles and doubles at the Việt Nam Tennis Federation (VTF) Masters 500, the Hải Đăng Cup, which concluded in the southern province of Tây Ninh Province on Sunday.

Nguyễn from host club Tây Ninh, 521 in the ATP rankings, beat No 2 seed Trịnh Linh Giang 6-0, 6-3 in the men’s singles final.

Earlier, Nguyễn who was previously ranked in the world’s top 200, beat Vietnamese No 1 Lý Hoàng Nam in the semi-finals.

In the doubles category, Nguyễn and Giang beat Phạm Minh Tuấn and Lê Quốc Khánh of Hưng Thịnh – HCM City 6-2, 6-4 to take the title.

In the women’s singles final, Trần Thuỵ Thanh Trúc of Hưng Thịnh – HCM City took the title after beating Phan Thị Thanh Bình of Đà Nẵng 1-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Trúc and Phan Như Quỳnh also helped Hưng Thịnh – HCM City win their second title after triumphing in the women’s doubles.

The first tournament of the VTF series featured 65 athletes from eight teams competing in the men’s and women’s singles and doubles. — VNS
