HÀ NỘI — The Saigon Heat were defeated by the Singapore Slingers 87‒80 in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) on Sunday.
The Slingers entered the game confidently but the Heat’s Murphy Burnatowski (5 points) and Trevon Hughes (6 points) gave their team a 26-13 lead in the first quarter.
Cheered on by fans at the OCBC Arena, the Slingers finshed the half 51‒29.
The third quarter was a tense affair, and a magical dunk from Delvin Goh saved the Slingers’ advantage at 63‒62.
In the final quarter, the shining of Xavier Alexander (10 points), Desmond Oh (5 points) and Jerran Young (5 points) helped the hosts end the match at 87‒80.
Trevon Hughes scored 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals; Murphy Burnatowski contributed 17 points and 5 rebounds; Kyle Barone grabbed 19 points and 12 rebounds; while Chris Dierker downed 10 points and 15 rebounds for the Heat.
In their next encounter, the Heat will visit Hong Kong Eastern on January 30. — VNS
