HÀ NỘI — Head coach Kim Sang-sik has named a squad featuring several young players and two newcomers, including naturalised striker Olaha Mạnh Đức, for Việt Nam’s preparations for the Casper Cup 2026 during the November FIFA Days.
The latest squad combine established internationals with emerging talent as Kim looks to assess his options and strengthen the team’s depth ahead of upcoming international assignments.
The adjustment of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup schedule, now set for December 23, 2027 to January 21, 2028, has given the coaching staff more time to plan for the long term and evaluate potential additions to the national team.
Several familiar names are absent from the squad, including Nguyễn Hoàng Đức, Nguyễn Quang Hải, Bùi Hoàng Việt Anh, Cao Pendant Quang Vinh and Đoàn Văn Hậu.
Meanwhile, experienced players such as goalkeeper Patrik Lê Giang, centre-back Nguyễn Thành Chung and defender Nguyễn Văn Vĩ return after spells away from the national team. Midfielder Nguyễn Hai Long, defender Trương Tiến Anh and striker Nguyễn Đình Bắc are also included.
The two newcomers are a particular highlight. Vietnamese-American centre-back Lương Chí Khải (Kyle Colonna), who plays for Thể Công Viettel, receives his first national team call-up. Olaha Mạnh Đức of HCM City Police also earns an opportunity, bringing his experience of several V.League 1 seasons to the forward line.
A number of young players will also be looking to make an impression. They include goalkeeper Trần Trung Kiên, defenders Nguyễn Nhật Minh and Phạm Lý Đức, and midfielders Nguyễn Thái Quốc Cường and Phạm Minh Phúc.
Up front, Nguyễn Lê Phát and Nguyễn Thanh Nhàn retain their places, while Nguyễn Văn Tùng returns after an extended absence. He previously impressed at the 2022 AFC U23 Asian Cup, notably with a volley against Thailand that was selected among the tournament's best group-stage goals.
