HCM City — Lại Lý Huynh triumphed at the National Chinese Chess Tournament which concluded in HCM City on Sunday.
Huynh from Bình Dương won a gold medal in the men’s standard event after winning seven matches and drawing to stand on eight points.
Nguyễn Minh Nhật Quang of HCM City and Tôn Thất Nhật Tân of Đà Nẵng were the runners-up.
In the blitz event, Huynh continued to prove his powers with eight points after nine rounds.
Nguyễn Hoàng Lâm B of HCM City and Chu Tuấn Hải of Huế finished second and third.
In the standard event on the women’s side, veteran Nguyễn Hoàng Yến of HCM City gained 4.5 points after seven rounds to win gold, followed by Trần Tuệ Doanh of HCM City and Lê Thị Kim Loan of Hà Nội.
Đàm Thị Thùy Dung of HCM City took gold in the women’s blitz category with five points after five rounds, followed by Yến and Loan.
Following this event, players will take part in the Asian Youth Chinese Chess Open to be held in Hạ Long City, Quảng Ninh Province from December 15-20. — VNS
