HÀ NỘI  — Nguyễn Tiến Hùng finished first and set a new record at the Hà Nội Half Marathon “Run for Tiger” on Sunday.

The event was held in the Ciputra urban area in Bắc Từ Liêm District.

Hùng, from the northern mountainous province of Phú Thọ, clocked a time of 1:16.39.

Hùng is defending champion of the Long Bien Marathon and the Việt Nam Mountain Marathon over 100km.

Richard Sirrs and Cao Ngọc Hà were the runners-up with times of 1:17.15 and 01:21.02, respectively.

In the women’s race, Võ Thị Yến triumphed with a time of 1:43.09, followed by Mitchell Christine and Owen Lily.

The event attracted the participation of around 800 runners from 43 countries and territories competing in 21km, 10km and 5km runs as well as a 3km family fun run and a 1km run for children.

It aimed to encourage the community to commit to not using products made from tiger, thus helping to put an end to the hunting, farming and trade of tigers in the country. The profits from the event will be donated to Education for Nature Việt Nam. — VNS
