Liêm ranks 10th at Isle of Man

Vietnamese Grandmaster Lê Quang Liêm beat Grandmaster Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa of India in the last ninth round to rank 10th place at the Isle of Man International Chess Tournament which concluded in the UK on Sunday.

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese grandmaster Lê Quang Liêm beat grandmaster Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa of India in the ninth and final round to finish 10th place the Isle of Man International Chess Tournament, which concluded in the UK on Sunday.

Liêm has an Elo rating of 2715, while Praggnanandhaa has an Elo rating of 2519.

In nine rounds, the HCM City-born player Liêm secured five wins, two draws and two losses to have six points.

Radosław Wojtaszek of Poland won the event with seven points, followed by Arkadij Naiditsch of Azerbaijan and Vladimir Kramnik of Russia.

The tournament was one of the strongest open chess tournaments ever held. It attracted 174 players from 35 countries competing over nine days. — VNS
