HÀ NỘI — Nam Định beat Hà Nội B in the V.League 2018 play-off at the Vinh Stadium on Saturday to earn to stay in Việt Nam’s top division next season.
Nam Định won 5-3 in the penalty shootout following the goalless draw in normal time.
Nam Định reached the play-off as they finished second from bottom in the national premier league, while Hà Nội B finished second in the first division.
“Before entering the match, my players were stressed,” said Nam Định coach Nguyễn Văn Sỹ.
“However, I am very happy as my players overcame the pressure. This win was deserved.
“When they played in the penalty shootout, I believed that they could do well. They are very experienced,” said Sỹ.
Sỹ also said there will be an improvement next season.
“We have had a plan for the V.League 2019. Surely, Nam Định won’t struggle like this season as my players gained more experience,” Sỹ added. — VNS
