Thang Long Warriors continue to be unbeatable at VBA 2018

The 2017 league defending champions the Thang Long Warriors affirmed their strength as they beat the Cantho Catfish in the 35th game of the Việt Nam Basketball Association (VBA) 2018 season, held at Cần Thơ Gymnasium on August 2.

HÀ NỘI —The 2017 league defending champions the Thang Long Warriors affirmed their strength as they beat the Cantho Catfish in the 35th game of the Việt Nam Basketball Association (VBA) 2018 season, held at Cần Thơ Gymnasium on Thursday.

Host Cantho Catfish quickly scored several 3-pointers thanks to the efforts of Lê Hiếu Thành, Nguyễn Phú Hoàng, Sang Đinh and De Angelo Hamilton.

But the true grit of trio Jaywuan Hill, Justin Young and Đặng Thái Hưng helped the Warriors end the first round with 20 points to the Catfish’s 17.

However, the host team evened the score to 34-33 in the second round.

In the third round, the work of Jaywuan Hill and Ryan Lê helped the Warriors regain the match and set the scoreboard 61-52. Thanks to the Warriors’ strong defense, they defeated the Catfish 69-80.

MVP Hill brought 30 points and 17 rebounds. Young gave 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Hưng scored 8 points and 10 rebounds and Ryan Lê gave 8 points to the Warriors.

On the host side, Hamilton claimed 26 points and 11 rebounds and Nguyễn Huỳnh Phú Vinh gave 10 points to the Cantho Catfish.

In the next match, the Catfish will face Hanoi Buffaloes on Saturday, and the Thang Long Warriors will meet Saigon Heat at CIS Gymnasium on Sunday.

Previously, in the 34th game, Saigon Heat beat HCM City Wings by Jetstar 100-79.

The pair Tavarion Nix and Triệu Hán Minh helped the Saigon team lead 43-42 and continued to rise to 69-63.

Though HCM City Wings tried to even the score, they eventually lost to the visiting team. — VNS
