HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Thị Huyền Trang, world shuttlecock champion, died at the age of 33 in Hà Nội yesterday due to breast cancer.

Born in 1985 in Hà Nội, Trang started playing when she was 14 years old, and quickly became key player for the national team. She won two gold medals at the Southeast Asian Games in 2003 and two gold medals at the World Shuttlecock Championships in 2005 and 2007, as well as many titles at domestic events.

Trang was considered the beauty queen of her sport in Việt Nam.

In 2007, Trang retired from competition to get married. Five years later, she returned to play for Đà Nẵng but retired due to her illness. — VNS
