HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s No 1 badminton player Nguyễn Tiến Minh is out of the Singapore Badminton Open 2018, losing in the semi-finals on Saturday.
Minh, world No 73, was beaten by Hsu Jen Hao of Chinese Taipei, 15-21, 11-21 after 79 minutes which marked a record time in Super Series competition system.
“I tried my best but my rival played better. I thank every one for supporting me. I hope next time I will shine in other prestigious events,” said HCM City-born Minh.
Earlier, he defeated Ihsan Maulana Mustofa of Indonesia 21-15, 21-15 in just 39 minutes in the quarter-finals.
After this tournament, Minh will compete in the upcoming World Badminton Championship in China. — VNS
