ĐỒNG NAI — The National Junior Sepaktakraw Championship 2018 has kicked off in Đồng Nai. The event has attracted 200 athletes from 13 provinces, cities and sepaktakraw clubs across the country, including Hà Nội, Yên Bái, Đồng Nai, Vĩnh Long, and Sóc Trăng.
Teams compete in 12 categories, including men’s, women’s, under 16 and 17 to 20.
According to Lê Duy Lượng, deputy chairman of the World Sepaktakraw Federation and head of the Việt Nam Sepaktakraw Federation, most teams have experienced athletes.
“Teams like Hà Nội, HCM City, Đồng Nai, and Sóc Trăng have some experienced competitors. However, Bạc Liêu and Bắc Giang also bring many new faces,” Lượng said on Tuesday.
The tournament is a foundation for the organising board to select high qualified athletes for international contests.
This is also a chance for athletes to exchange experience and review their training methods.
“We expect both U16 and U20 teams to create a breakthrough this season.”
The tournament lasts until July 25. — VNS
