Chiến ranks 10th in world billiards rankings

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese cueist Trần Quyết Chiến rose eight spots, from 18th to 10th place in the latest World Union of Billiards (UMB)’s three-cushion rankings, announced the UMB yesterday.

Chiến won the Three-Cushion Carom Billiards World Cup which wrapped up in HCM City on Sunday, making history as the first Vietnamese World Cup champion.

With the victory, the southern province of Cà Mau-born player was awarded prize money of US$18,682 and added 80 points to his ranking score, bringing the total to 227 and driving his rise up the table.

“My result today is a driving force for myself as well as for many Vietnamese cueists who love billiards,” said Chiến.

Besides Chiến, two Vietnamese players also jumped to high positions. Ngô Đình Nại, who came second in the World Cup, increased 10 spots to world No 20. While Nguyễn Quốc Nguyện, who got the bronze medal, jumped one spot to 14th place.

Chiến and his teammates will next compete in the Three-Cushion Carom Billiards World Cup in Belgium on June 11-17. — VNS
