HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Hoàng Giang secured a win in the ninth stage of the Return to the Countryside cycling tournament yesterday.

Giang of Gạo Hạt Ngọc Trời An Giang completed the 76km stage from Kiến Tường Town of Long An Province to Hồng Ngự District of Đồng Tháp Province with a time of 1hr 51.22min.

Green jersey holder Phan Hoàng Thái of Domesco Đồng Tháp came second and Jay Lampawog of team Go for Gold from the Philippines finished third.

Nguyễn Nhật Nam of Domesco Đồng Tháp remained the tour leader with the best time of 18:14.43, followed by Quách Tiến Dũng of the Military Zone 7 and Nguyễn Phạm Quốc Khang from Bike Life Đồng Nai.

Thái who grabbed two out of three sprints yesterday continues as favourite for the green jersey as he has collected 106 points, leaving his nearest rival Lampawog far behind on 77.

There is no change in the team rankings, Gạo Hạt Ngọc Trời An Giang, Bike Life Đồng Nai and Go for Gold are the three top teams, respectively.

Today, cyclists will take part in the 10th 80km stage from Châu Đốc City to Long Xuyên City of An Giang Province in the morning. The tournament will wrap up in the afternoon after a 25-lap of 25km around Trưng Nữ Vương Square in Long Xuyên. — VNS
