HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese trio -- Trần Quốc Cường, Hoàng Xuân Vinh and Nguyễn Đình Thành -- won a bronze medal at the 10th Asian Air gun Championship in Japan on Sunday.

The team came third in the men’s 10m air pistol event, shooting 1,728 points.

India came first, with 1,735 points and China took the silver, winning 1,729 points.

Cường, who scored 582 points in the individual category, grabbed a berth in the final round. His Olympic winning teammate, Vinh, failed to make it to the top eight athletes, with only 575 points. His poor performance was attributed to a gun that was just fixed and one that Vinh was not familiar with.

In the earlier classes, Nguyễn Duy Hoàng of Việt Nam earned 612.5 points and ranked No. 21 in the men’s 10m air rifle. In the women’s 10m air pistol, Lê Thị Linh Chi advanced to the final with 133.8 points.

The championship in Wako City began on December 6 and will close today. — VNS
