HÀ NỘI — Hoàng Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) beat Viettel 3-0 in the finals, to take the title of the National U21 Football Championships for the first time in history.
The match, which was held at Bình Dương Stadium in the southern province of Bình Dương on December 7, attracted the attention of many fans and experts, as the two clubs own the leading young aces of the country.
Viettel played attack, and since the first few minutes of the match, they dominated the game and created several chances to score goals but failed.
Although HAGL didn’t control the game, they also made several dangerous situations. In the 23rd minute, from a counter attack, Hoàng Thanh Tùng opened the score for HAGL.
Tùng’s goal was a driving force for his team to play more aggressively in the remaining time. Viettel also pushed up their line-up to seek goals but found difficulties on the way to the box of HAGL.
In the 80th minute, Nguyễn Văn Anh, who replaced his teammate in the second half, doubled the score for HAGL.
Viettel made every effort to narrow the gap. However, in the 88th minute, a defender of Viettel made an error with a HAGL player in the penalty area. Lê Văn Sơn took full advantage of the chance to fix the match of 3-0 with a penalty kick for HAGL.
The match had an extra five minutes but Viettel couldn’t score any goal.
Earlier, in the final match of the qualifying round, HAGL tied goalless with Viettel.
The event’s organising board gave Lê Văn Sơn of HAGL the Most Valuable Player award, while the best goalie award went to Rmah Sươ of HAGL. — VNS
