Phụng 20th at London Classic FIDE Open

Vietnamese Grandmaster Võ Thị Kim Phụng gained 5.5 points after seven games to rank 20th out of 175 chess players at the ongoing London Classic FIDE Open in England.

HÀ NỘI -- Vietnamese Grandmaster Võ Thị Kim Phụng has 5.5 points after seven games to rank 20th out of 175 chess players at the ongoing London Classic FIDE Open in England.

With an Elo rating of 2,381, Phụng is No 61 seed at the event which attracted many outstanding players in the world such as Grandmaster Tamir Nabaty of Israel (Elo 2,661) and Eduardo Patricio Iturrizaga Bonelli of Venezuela (Elo 2,665).

The 24-year-old Phụng has four wins and three draws.

She beat Fodor Tamas Jr of Hungary in the sixth match and tied with Le Roux Jean-Pierre of France in the seventh game.

In the next round, she will meet Moussard Jules of France.

Melkumyan Hrant of Armenia leads with 6.5 points and Nabaty of Israel is second with six points.  -- VNS
