HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam, for the first time, will host the Asian Women’s Amateur Boxing Championship from November 2 to 8 in HCM City.
There will be 10 categories for athletes ranging from U48kg to over-81kg.
Việt Nam will compete in all classes. The medal hopes are on Lừu Thị Duyên in the 60kg and Lê Thị Bằng in the 54kg pools.
Both of them are two of the most experienced athletes in the national team. They also won medals at the Asian Games. Three years ago, they grabbed bronze medals at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.
“We hope the tournament will be a good chance for Vietnamese boxers to show off their abilities against strong rivals in Asia,” said Vũ Đức Thịnh, head of the Boxing Department.
The tournament is free for all supporters and is being held at the Nguyễn Du Gymnasium.
In the previous championship in 2015, Việt Nam sealed a bronze by Hà Thị Linh in the 64kg discipline. The best results at the tournament were two silver medals by Ngô Thị Phương (48kg) and Nguyễn Thị Vui (60kg) in the 2008 version. — VNS
