HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam will send eight players to compete at the World Youth U14, U16, U18 Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships 2017 to be held in Greece on October 27.
Among the eight, Nguyễn Anh Khôi and Trần Minh Thắng are the most promising faces of Vietnamese chess. Khôi is a strong contender to win an U16 medal at the event. While Thắng is expected to put in a strong showing in the U18 category. Thắng won a bronze in the boys’ U16 category at the World Youth Chess Championship last year. He placed 6th with six points at the recent Piaya Network Negros International Open in the Philippines.
Khôi is the defending national chess champion. He won the world titles in the U10 category in 2012 and in U12 division in 2014.
The tournament will finish on October 31. — VNS
