Country reaches best world ranking in two years
HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s national men’s football team jumped nine rungs to rank at No 121 in the world, in October.
It is the team’s best ranking in the last two years.
They assumed their new position after Việt Nam beat Cambodia 5-0 in the 2019 Asian Cup qualifier last week.
The world’s top five spots remain unchanged. Germany are on top, followed by Brazil, Portugal, Argentina and Belgium.
The new world seat helped Việt Nam overcome Thailand to become No 2 in Southeast Asia, just behind the Philippines at No 116.
Thailand are now third, at No 138.
In the Asian ranking, Iran, Australia and Japan occupy the top three places, respectively. Việt Nam stays at No 21.
The next world ranking will be announced on November 23. — VNS
