HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội topped the women’s category while HCM City won the men’s class at the National Weightlifting Championships, which closed on Sunday in HCM City.
The capital city’s representatives won 11 gold medals while the host athletes pocketed 12.
On the last day of competition, Nguyễn Thị Vân Hà of Hà Nội triumphed in all three events in the women’s 75kg -- snatch, clean & jerk and total.
Trần Văn Hóa pocketed three gold medals in the men’s 94kg -- the last category for HCM City. It was his 11th victory in a row at the annual national tournament.
Earlier, Hanoians Vương Thị Huyền, Nguyễn Thị Tuyết Mai, Nguyễn Thị Thúy and Nguyễn Thị Vân pocketed gold medals for Hà Nội while SEA Games medalists Thạch Kim Tuấn, Hoàng Tấn Tài and Nguyễn Hồng Ngọc claimed nine titles for HCM City.
The tournament also saw five new national records.
Leading athletes from the tournament will be summoned to prepare for the world championship in the United States next month. — VNS
