HÀ NỘI — Twenty-four players left for South Korea yesterday to attend a 10-day training session to prepare for the upcoming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Malaysia.
Coach Nguyễn Hữu Thắng called three goal keepers; nine defenders including Vũ Văn Thanh of Hoàng Anh Gia Lai (HAGL), Đoàn Văn Hậu of Hà Nội FC and Hồ Tấn Tài of Bình Định; eight midfielders including four of HAGL and Lâm Ti Phông of Khánh Hòa; four strikers, namely Nguyễn Công Phượng of HAGL, Hà Đức Chinh of Đà Nẵng, Lê Thanh Bình of Thanh Hóa and Hồ Tuấn Tài of Sông Lam Nghệ An.
Việt Nam will have two friendly matches in South Korea. They face Mokpo City on August 5 and Busan on August 8.
This is the last chance for the players to display their skills before Thắng selects 20 of them for the regional sports event.
At the SEA Games, Việt Nam are in group B alongside Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Timor Leste, and the Philippines.
They face Timor Leste on the opening match on August 15, Cambodia on August 17, the Philippines on August 20, Indonesia on August 22 and defending champions Thailand two days later. — VNS
