HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Hữu Kim Sơn set a new national record in the men’s 1,500m freestyle event while swimming in the FINA World Championships, which concluded in Hungary yesterday.
Sơn did not win a medal, but his result of 15 minutes and 29.90 seconds is the new height for the national championships.
His result was also better than the record of the biennial Southeast Asian Games, which will be kicked off next month in Malaysia.
The previous national record of 15:30.11s was held by Nguyễn Huy Hoàng in last year’s tournament. The previously-held SEA Games record of 15:31.03s belonged to Vietnamese Lâm Quang Nhật, which was set in Singapore in 2015. — VNS
