HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Văn Phương of Việt Nam came second in the PTT-ITF Junior Grade 5 tennis tournament, which concluded on Saturday in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
The No 13 seed lost 2-6, 2-6 to No 1 Akanit Pumjit of the hosts in the boys’ singles final.
The girls’ title went to Natasha Sengphrachanh of Canada who defeated No 1 Salsa Aher of India.
Phương will remain in Thailand for the PTT-ITF Junior Grade 4, which will be held from June 19 to June 24.
His senior teammates Nguyễn Hoàng Thiên and Lý Hoàng Nam will take part in the Thailand F3 Men’s Futures event in Hua Hin.
No 3 Nam will face Thai Charles Roberts while Thiên will meet Teeradon Tortrakul of the hosts in the first match.
The Vietnamese players will also pair up for the doubles event. The No 3 duo will play wildcard receivers Kittirat Kerdlaphee and Phongsapak Kerdlaphee of Thailand in the first round. — VNS
