Việt Nam snatch second win at Sudirman Cup

Việt Nam yesterday grabbed their second win at the Total Badminton World Federation Sudirman Cup, the World Team Championships, beating Canada 5-0 in the Group 2A in Australia.

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam yesterday grabbed their second win at the Total Badminton World Federation Sudirman Cup, the World Team Championships, beating Canada 5-0 in the Group 2A in Australia.

Top-flight player Nguyễn Tiến Minh encountered no difficulty to win 21-19, 21-11 against Jason Anthony Ho-Shue in the men’s singles match.

Nguyễn Thùy Linh marked her Cup’s debut with a 21-12, 21-12 win against Brittney Tam in the women’s singles.

Vũ Thị Trang, pairing with Phạm Như Thảo, trounced Michelle Tong and Josephine Wu 21-9, 21-13 in the women’s doubles.

Thảo, who then joined Đỗ Tuấn Đức in the mixed doubles, enjoyed her second win of 21-13, 21-18 against Nyl Yakura and Tam.

Đức and teammate Phạm Hồng Nam beat Phillipe Gaumond and Maxime Marin 21-18 21-18 in the men’s doubles.

In in the first match on Sunday, Việt Nam won 4-1 over New Zealand.

Việt Nam top the group after two wins. They will play Scotland, who defeated New Zealand 4-1 yesterday, in today action at the Gold Coast’s Carrara Sports & Leisure Centre. — VNS
