HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese athletes secured two more gold medals at the Singapore Open Track & Field Championships on April 28.

Southeast Asian champion Nguyễn Thị Huyền won in the women’s 400m event with a time of 53.89sec.

Joy Kuan of the hosts came second in 1min 0.97sec. Third place went to Oh Shi Ning Charl of Singapore’s Nanyang Polytechnic crew who ran 1:01.99.

It was Huyền’s second gold at the tournament, in its 79th edition at the Singapore Sports Hub.

On April 27, she won and set a tournament record in the 400m hurdle event.

Huyền is the top Vietnamese runner in these two categories. She competed at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games last August.

Her teammate Vũ Thị Mến also tasted victory.

She won the women’s triple jump event with a result of 13.27m.

She jumped much longer than second-placed athlete Wendy Enn of Singapore, who set a national record with 12.05m.

There were three athletes competing in this event but Noor Sh Mohd Zuki of Malaysia withdrew late.

This was Mến’s first appearance at the Singapore Open. Mến also won gold at the Asian Beach Games last September in Đà Nẵng, jumping 13.11m. She is also the national defending champion.
